Not many people know much about CFS, let alone some trivia. here are a few tidbits to brighten your day!
1) Cher had CFS for a few years. She was bedridden for months & months and still can feel the effect if she works too hard. (bet no one asked her "well, are you unhappy with your life? Are you sure you're not just scared about that big math test?")
2) We CFS suffers have a day!! MAY 12th is CFS Awareness day! Spread the word!!
2a) May 12th was Florence Nightengale's Birthday. She suffered from an unknown, but debilitating illness for many, many years. It is now thought to be Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Despite her horrible disease, she managed to start up the Red Cross
3) We have a ribbon!! A Blue Ribbon Symbolizes CFS Awareness (like Red for AIDS and Pink for Breast Cancer) show your support by wearing a blue ribbon!
4) We have an animal!! Well, not exactly an animal, but the Blue Butterfly is a symbol of CFS support!!!
5) Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS), affects an estimated 800,000 American adults and an unknown number of children and adolescents.
6) CFS is the leading cause of school absence in England
7) Doctors are trying to get a new name for CFS. "Chronic Fatige Syndrome" sounds wussy. They are thinking of naming it after doctors who discovered it and named it. But it is undecided what the name will be and when it will take affect
7a) Here are some names my friend Cathy came up with:
"Dingbat virus" "Nobodygivesashit syndrome" "The chronic walking dead virus"
And mine are:
"Chronic Fatigue-is-the-least-of-it Syndrome" "More Doubters than believers disease" "My life is Hell-itis"
8) Although much objective evidence of an underlying biological disorder involving the brain and immune system has been documented in the medical literature, there is as yet no diagnostic test and no cure.
9) It is common for people in the same family to have CFS. Even though doctors say it is not contagious (noone I know -except my brother-has it) but there was a test that showed most school teachers who had CFS had a student that had CFS
